What was believed to be a fancy dinner outing with friends turned into one of the biggest nights of our lives! It was pouring down rain, traffic was backed up, + one of my best friends, Sami, and I only had a short window of time to get back home to get ready for the dinner. Another friend of ours, Bill - who had organized the whole dinner - complete with reservations - let us know he pushed back the time so we all wouldn’t be late. He also mentioned something about helping him load up some supplies in his car at the meet up spot we had agreed on. Surprisingly, Sami + I were the first to arrive so we walked inside the warehouse at our church to help Bill. He led us to another room with a cart, ready to load up. I suspected NOTHING. I opened the door + all i saw was Matt. He was standing there in a dark room, under an arbor (he built himself!!) that was covered in lights. More lights on the floor made a pathway that led straight to him. I turned around to look at our 2 friends, shocked + in disbelief that this was actually happening right then. They told me to go in + shut the door behind me. I walked down the path to my best friend + met him under the arbor. He asked if I was surprised. HA! He pulled out a letter he had written + began to read. He told me those 3 words I had been dying to hear him say for the past 3 years, the same 3 words I had wanted to tell him for so long. [Matt had told me the night he asked me to be his girlfriend that he was not going to say "i love you" until he asked me to marry him. One of the hardest things we ever did, but so worth it!] He got down on one knee + asked me to marry him. And I said the best + easiest YES of my life to the one I'll spend forever with. .... We got to spend the rest of New Years Eve with loved ones who had been hiding in the room, including my best friend, Reagan, from Florida! We saw both our families + more friends later as we rung in the New Year together! BEST. DAY. EVER.
