Bear Lake Loop- 2.5-mile loop off of Lake Basin Trailhead. Family-friendly with elevation gain only at 350' while passing four small lakes. Sardine Lake- Right off of Gold Lake Highway just about 35 minutes away from the resort in the basin of the Sierra Mountains! Mt. Elwell- 7.5 mile steep hike off of Smith Lake Trailhead. This is not for the novice hiker as there is a 7,800' elevation gain with some steep exposed sections. Plumas Hike- Can be accessed 10 minutes away from Nakoma Resort from the Lake Basin Recreation Area. This hike can be short or long as it has multiple interconnected trails.
Don't feel like leaving the property? Don't worry there are plenty of shorter trails that are kid friendly. Village Trail- A 0.3 mile throughout the resort that passes by a creek. Trail A- a 0.6 mile hike that is accessed from A-15 or Great Spirit and passes by the golf course and makes it way through over 27 native trees! Another great hike for kiddos! Cloud Rest Trail- Slightly longer than Trail A, Cloud Rest Trail is a 0.7 mile hike with a little more skill required for these trails as there are steeper and strenuous stretches of trail.
