We recommend getting an Airbnb as you can find them for much cheaper than your average hotel (plus usually cuter!) But it's your trip, so you do you. Santa Monica, Venice, Marina del Rey and Playa del Rey (beach towns) are about 20 minutes from the venue. Downtown LA, Hollywood and Silver Lake are only 30 minutes away.
