As fate would have it, Webster Groves School District placed us in the same sixth grade classroom. We were not fast friends; even complaining to teachers about each other. Luckily, we were united as friends when reintroduced by our mutual best friend, Maurice Lonsway IV the following school year after realizing we had all of our classes together.
We do nearly everything together -- our engagement being no different. This was a decision made mutually followed by picking out a ring at the last second of a Saturday evening. After looking at and trying on countless rings, we found the one and went home as fiancés.
On March 17, 2020, three days before our wedding, government officials in Jefferson County, Colorado issued a ban on dine-in establishments and gatherings larger than 10 people, forcing us to postpone our event. It was heartbreaking to hear that we could not have the celebration we worked for two years to plan but we knew it was for the health and safety of our loved ones. Luckily, we chose reputable vendors who worked with us to postpone things seamlessly to November 11, 2020. We are so excited for the opportunity to have a formal ceremony and party with our closest family and friends.
About a week before our scheduled wedding date, COVID-19 began to drastically change the country. We were receiving phone call after phone call from different family members letting us know they didn't feel safe attending our event. Government buildings, restaurants, schools, and shopping centers were beginning to implement distancing measures and close altogether. Out of fear that we wouldn't be able to file our marriage license, we signed it in our kitchen as scheduled on March 20, 2020. We have been enjoying each others' company during the state's mandatory lockdown as husband and wife.
