How We Met & Our Engagement Story

We met during our senior year of high school, just as graduation was around the corner. Our friend groups quickly grew close, and we spent those last few months making the most of our time together—camping, fishing, beach days, getting into trouble, and simply enjoying our last months together before life pulled us in different directions. Over that summer, the connection between Harrison and me deepened, and it didn’t take long for us to start hanging out one-on-one—catching movies, bowling, and even taking late-night bike rides around Waikiki. When college took us in separate directions, we stayed friends but didn’t stay close. It wasn’t until a few years later, when we were both back home finishing our studies, that we reconnected. While neither of us ever truly intended to just be friends, Harrison’s best friend knew he was too shy to ask me out, so he kept encouraging him to take the leap. I also had a habit of joking around, hinting that I was definitely interested and would love to go on a date. Eventually, after some gentle nudging from both sides, we started to take things beyond just hanging out—and from our very first real date, we both knew this was something special. Our connection felt easy and natural, as if we’d never spent a moment apart. In the spring of 2024, we took the next step and bought our first condo together, a fixer-upper full of potential, excited to build a future side by side. Later that summer, I invited Harrison and my family to join me in Okinawa, Japan, for a business convention. After the event wrapped up, we made a detour on our way to the airport to visit a beautiful, secluded beach near an old temple. We wandered through the area and eventually found our way to a hidden cove behind a small cliff. It was there, in that quiet moment, that Harrison asked me to marry him. I said yes, with so much joy in my heart—and admittedly, a little confusion about which hand the ring should go on! Afterward, we returned to the hotel in Okinawa to grab our luggage and meet up with my family. Together, we all made our way to the airport and flew to Osaka. The next day, we had a special Father’s Day lunch at a famous Kobe steakhouse, where we shared our exciting news with everyone. We later FaceTimed Harrison’s family to celebrate with them, too! With excitement still buzzing, we spent the next few days in Japan, exploring, eating, and celebrating together. From our first days as friends to this life-changing moment in Japan, we’re so grateful for every step of this journey. Our relationship has always been about sharing adventures, big and small, and we can’t wait for the next chapter to unfold.
