If you will be staying in Edinburgh city center for any length of time, we'd recommend leaving the car rental until you plan to go outside of the city. The city itself isn't so easy to maneuver with a car (e.g. parking and traffic). Public transport is the quickest and easiest way to travel inside the city. Anywhere in the city you can jump on trams or buses and tap your card.
