How We Met

Entering their senior year of high school, Kailee Kimbrell and Trae Ferril decided to transfer to a new school. They knew a few of the kids attending the new school, but basically, it was a fresh start. The first week of school, they both attended a little get-together at Sonic (Classy, Right?). After two hours of high school drama, the night turned cold, and Kailee’s Jeep wouldn't start, so she decided to hop into Trae's truck. Trae offered to take her to the most gourmet restaurant in town… Waffle House. She stated she didn't want anything, so Trae got a Hashbrown Bowl with chocolate milk and white toast. Unsurprisingly, Kailee drunkingly ate all of Trae's chocolate milk and ate all of his Toast and just said, “This was the best meal of my life”. After the late-night dinner, Kailee insisted on going to the park, where they talked for hours about life and what they felt their futures held. The more they talked, they realized how closely their lives were connected before actually meeting. They went to the same elementary school, went to the lake just camping spots away from each other, even “dated” in 7th grade, where Trae guesses the breakup was bad enough for her to block him up until 2022. After that, it would all seem to fall into place for them. They found that life was easier with each other and brought the best out in one another.

Trae’s favorite memory with Kailee

We've been together for 3 years, so it's difficult to pick just one, but it would have to be Easter of 2023. I worked for my family from time to time, and we are in the business of towing and recovery. It just so happened that Easter afternoon, a tractor-trailer was loaded with coffee creamer. The creamer had spilled onto I-27 from I-40 above. We were on our way back from Fritch, celebrating with Kailee's family. When I got a call from my uncle telling me the news. I told Kailee I was sorry and that it would only take 30 minutes at most. I was very wrong, it ended up being 4 hours long, but that never bothered Kailee, every time I checked on her, she was on my phone watching Netflix, asking how it was going. She could have had Christina come pick her up, but she never did. In that moment, I realized who she was; she was the one who, no matter what went wrong, would stick by me the whole time.

Kailee’s favorite memory with Trae

Honestly, it's hard to point to just one. From the very beginning of how we met, Trae was the only person in the world that I could be myself around. We talked for hours that night about so many things, and for some reason, I was able to tell him everything about myself with no hesitation. It was our first New Year's together, and no one had ever truly listened when I told them what my dream night would be, just two people spending time together, fully in the moment. He took me out under the stars and prepared a fruit tray with all my favorite fruits. He got the bed of his truck all set up so we could watch the fireworks. Even after many months together, he still gave me butterflies. He played our song, "Sparks," on his phone, and we slow-danced under the stars.
