Kaila and Pat met in Nashville. Pat had been living there for a few years, and Kaila had just moved to start school. She signed up for a kickball league as a free agent and was randomly placed on his team. The very first week Pat asked his friends "Who is that new girl? She's pretty cute." Kaila was immediately drawn to his charm and went up to him during the game and asked for a beer. They began talking over a Tecate and the rest was history! A work opportunity required Pat to move to Washington DC. Kaila had to stay in Nashville to finish school before she could join him on the East Coast. They had been doing long distance for over a year. He was back in Nashville for July 4th. At a friend's BBQ party earlier in the day, she made a joke about him proposing today. Kaila reached over a playfully patted his pocket and said "Nope, I guess it's not today." Patrick froze because he DID have the ring in his pocket!! He knew he couldn't push her hand away or he would give himself away. But she laughed and was oblivious to his plan. Later, they went to Little Harpeth Brewing in Nashville to watch the fireworks over the river. She went to use the restroom before the fireworks started and he went up to a nearby woman and said "I am about to propose to my girlfriend. Will you take photos?" The woman agreed. Patrick took Kaila up on a hill with the fireworks in the background. He got down on one knee and proposed. Kaila was surprised, but eagerly said yes! They celebrated by watching the rest of the show.
