It all began in May of 2023. Kaela was home for the summer from West Texas A&M University. Connor was just a city boy, born and raised in South Detroit. Cue Journey. Let’s digress—he was also home for the summer. He spent some years playing football at The University of Texas at El Paso and had just transferred to Henderson State University in Arkansas. Kaela, determined to hit the gym, was working out as usual when, shortly after, a boy was dragged in with his mother. As they were leaving, Connor’s mom, Sarah, asked him if he knew who that girl was, because, “she was cute.” This got his wheels turning. Connor had played football with Kaela’s cousin in middle school and high school. Not to mention, Roswell is a small town, so they knew of each other. Knowing she was a Ramage, Connor soon reached out to Kaela. The two decided to meet up at the gym. The gentleman offered Kaela a ride to the gym. But, aware of stranger danger she politely declined. Upon arrival, the first words were, “What's up dude,” said by Connor, and a teasing reply noting the car, “Man, maybe I should have said yes to a ride.” After the gym date, Connor left intrigued by this girl, immediately realizing, “she was different.” However, Connor’s enigmatic nature remained just that to Kaela—enigmatic. After three gym sessions, the two had to say a short goodbye as Connor left for a summer trip (including a European visit with his family). Meanwhile, Kaela joined her family in visiting her grandmother in Montana. Kaela kept resinating on this, “Connor Villalpando,” guy. Filling her mother in on all the new information, a (now) ironic recollection was brought up. Flashback to freshman Kaela, at a high school football game. Tasia, her mother, pointed out to her a “cute boy” on the field. Kaela had previously disgruntled, exclaiming there were, “no cute boys at school.” Regardless, she brushed her mom off, saying, “He’s older and too cool for me, no mom.” But she wisely replied, “Okay… just wait a few years, that stuff won't matter.” And every sensible person knows, “Mothers know best.” … Even if it takes a while to realize. The moral of the story is that their mothers picked each other out. To add to the irony, Kaela’s parents met at a gym too. Upon their return, the two reunited at the gym once again. Connor thoughtfully brought back prints from Paris and a postcard as a gift to Kaela. The time spent together then began to extend beyond the gym. Connors mysterious nature revealed itself to be all things patient, kind, caring, and loving. The two quickly began to fall in love. A year and a half later, on December 14th, 2024, Connor proposed to Kaela. Now, Here we all are! Following June 5th, Kaela and Connor will be moving together to Knoxville Tennessee. A sweet goodbye to Canyon, Texas and Charlotte, North Carolina! Kaela will be finishing her last semester of college online, and will graduate in December. While Connor will be attending law school in Knoxville. Dear new chapter, here they come! We have been so blessed. Most of all, that The Lord is our foundation, to whom we submit. We are full of gratitude as we look to see what the future holds. It is nothing shy of a privilege to have you with us! HERE IS TO “I DO”
