Spanish Peak Proposal

July 28, 2017

As an adventurous couple, we welcome any opportunity to spend time outside. Summer 2017, Kade decided we were going on a backpacking trip through the Spanish Peaks (outside Bozeman, MT) to wet a line in a crystal clear mountain lake. After several months of planning, the trip was finally here. On our way to Bozeman, Kade insisted that we detour to Butte for some “special flies” his dad had for us. Unsure why we had to make extra time for flies; he insisted that these flies could not be bought at any of the fly shops in Bozeman. Once we finally arrived at the trailhead, both of us were equally excited to get to the first lake and make camp for the evening. Once we arrived at Mirror Lake, Kade quickly hopped on a rock to begin fishing. I on the other hand, sprawled out for a nap on what was the SOFTEST grass EVER. Just as I got comfortable, Kade asked if I could grab him the “special flies” out of his pack. The flies were in an old film roll container, which I assumed could just be tossed to him out on the rock....As if in a movie, Kade lunged from the rock to the shore to ensure that I did NOT throw the container. As I turned to go back to my grass bed, Kade grabbed my hand and when I turned around he was on his knee. He held out the same film roll container and asked, if I wanted to be his adventure buddy forever...Stunned I didn’t say anything...at all. I opened the container and nestled beneath two flies was a ring...still I said nothing, but started to cry. At this point Kade asks, “Is that a yes?” Finally. Snapping out of the initial shock I remembered that I should probably use my words, and give him an answer. Later that night he explained that he was so anxious to get to the first lake to get the question off his chest. Following the proposal, we spent the next two day in some of the most beautiful country I’ve ever seen. Upon our return home, I called all of my friends and family to tell them about our engagement; to my surprise everyone knew his plan.

For all the days along the way
