Our story is one tied together with an invisible string, holding us together through the near misses. We first met working together in a residential placement for youth who were struggling to stay on the right track. Camran was a residential staff while Kaci was just starting as an intern at the school on campus. Crossing paths only a few times in cordial manners, Camran moved to the school down the street to pursue his dream of being a special education teacher. Not even knowing each other’s names, there was little to no impact on our minds. Fast forward to a year later, Kaci was hired as a Behavior Specialist at the same school Camran switched to. We’d catch each others eyes across the room during orientation, taking a few minutes to place the familiarity. We then grew a friendship, bonded over our experiences, and supporting each other through difficult times. Our friends around us would make comments about us being “soulmates” or the “perfect match” but we would just shrug off this idea due to our own blindness to what they were seeing. Eventually, timing aligned and we both nervously discussed the possibility of “us” over a game of pool. From then on, everything fell perfectly into place. We became even more inseparable than before and navigated life’s challenges hand in hand. Months later, Kaci was introduced to Camran’s daughter, Ainsley, and things fell even more perfectly into place. Looking back, it feels like the universe knew how our stories would go far before we did, keeping that invisible string hidden until the perfect moment.
