Things To Do

We are beyond thrilled to share Greece, one of our most favorite places, with you!
Acropolis & Parthenon

Acropolis & Parthenon

Athens, 105 58, Greece

Athens’ most iconic landmark, the Acropolis crowns the city with ancient glory. Built in the fifth century B.C., this ancient citadel towers over the city and is home to some of the most impressive ancient ruins, buildings, and artifacts. The most famous temple, the Parthenon, was dedicated to the goddess Athena and is considered the peak of Greek art. Tickets to walk the mountain's iconic steps cost about 20 euros, and Zach and Kacey think that the Acropolis best visited early morning or late afternoon to avoid crowds and heat.

Plaka

Plaka

Athens, Greece

The charming “village” of Athens, Plaka is a maze of narrow streets lined with neoclassical homes, quaint shops, and cozy tavernas. Zach and Kacey think Plaka is perfect for strolling, shopping for souvenirs, and enjoying traditional Greek cuisine beneath the shadow of the Acropolis. It is free to roam around the streets, but you'll want to have a couple of euros on hand for the inevitable shop/cafe. This area is best explored on foot, day or night.

Monastiraki

Monastiraki

Athens, Greece

Monastiraki is a lively neighborhood famous for its flea market, street vendors, and mix of old and new. It's the perfect place to shop for antiques, handmade goods, and local snacks. Bustling both day and night, it’s a true taste of Athens’ energy. And, given Monastiraki's central location to the Acropolis, Syntagma Square, and Plaka, Zach and Kacey like to stop by here on the way to another location to relax in a café with panoramic views of the Acropolis.

Athens Restaurants & Drinks

Athens Restaurants & Drinks

It's impossible to taste the full potential of Athens, but for a good cross-section of its flavors, here are some of Zach & Kacey's favorites: Thanassis - Souvlaki, Traditional Greek "Taverna"-Style Cuisine. This family-friendly staple is located in the heart of Athens' Monastiraki neighborhood and consistently ranks as a top 50 restaurants in the world. Ergon House - Greek Cuisine, Breakfast, Coffee. This indoor restaurant/market is located on the ground floor or the Ergon House Hotel. Zach would eat every meal here if he could. Kir Aristos - Zach would also eat every meal here if he could. The Clumsies - Cocktails - Ranked among the world’s best bars, The Clumsies offers inventive cocktails in a stylish yet relaxed setting. Whether you’re sipping classics with a twist or bold new creations, it’s a perfect spot for a great night out in the heart of Athens. Baba au Rum - A world-class cocktail bar with a passion for rum spirits. Ermou 18 Beyond the Horizon - Rooftop Cocktails

Lake Vouliagmeni

Lake Vouliagmeni

Greece

Lake Vouliagmeni is a small brackish-water lake fed by underground currents seeping through the mass of Mount Hymettus located to the south of Vouliagmeni, Athens, Greece. These natural hot springs with underwater caves were formed in what was, in prehistoric times, a huge cave. The thermal waters, underwater tunnels and, lush vegetation now create a unique geological phenomenon. The lake’s present form was created after the roof of the cave fell due to erosion caused by the high temperature of the running water. The stunning emerald waters remain at a temperature between 68 and 79 degrees Fahrenheit all year round.

Temple of Poseidon

Temple of Poseidon

Sounion, 195 00, Greece

If the Parthenon is Greece's most famous archaeological site, the Temple of Poseidon is not far behind. It is located in Sounio, the southernmost point of Athens, about 70 km (44 miles) from the city's center. Here, you will see the great Temple of Poseidon and the smaller temple of Athena, two gods that ancient Greeks used to worship. The archaeological site is open every day from 9:00 am until sunset in the summer months. Zach and Kacey recommend Sounio as a half-day trip for those who rent a car.
