If you're reading this, you know how we met.
I had told Kacee for years that I was going to get her a watermelon pop ring as an engagement ring. She laughed as I am sure she thought it was a joke, but I was serious. With the year ending, I wanted to get engaged on New Year’s Eve as it seemed symbolic with the start of a new year and the start of a new life together. So, I spent December dodging and declining New Year’s Eve invitations because I wanted the event to be just between Kacee and myself. I was successfully dodging invitations until a few nights before New Year’s, we were out having dinner and drinks with friends and it came up that no one had New Year’s Eve plans, and we should all get together. The girls immediately started planning the event and I was trying to kill the idea at every turn. I was able to put a stop to the event planning that night, saying we would all talk about it the next day. I thought I was all set then I got the flu, so all my plans went out the window again. Because I was still not feeling the best, we decided to have an early dinner at the Country Club and go home. Before we left for dinner, I was able to get a bottle of champagne chilling on the counter with the watermelon ring pop tied around the neck. She changed her mind about the champagne she wanted to drink (one that did not fit in the chiller), but not the man she wanted to marry.
