Our story is a bit embarrassing, but one of a kind... It was one late night in July. We were both on Asiantown doing our own thing until I saw Ricky's shout out. The first thought I had was, "Ooh, he's kind of cute." My curiosity led me into his personal page and immediately a song I've never heard before began to play. I really wanted to know the song so I messaged him to ask him for the title and instantly he replied, "Whatcha Say by Jason Derulo." We hit it off really good and ended up staying up all night chatting. Before we said our goodbyes, he asked for my number and e-mail and promised that he'd call me at 9:00 p.m. that following night. We both began to get the butterflies as 09:00 p.m. approached. At 09:01 p.m., the phone rang and I immediately picked up. Anyways, we talked for the rest of that night and the following few days. On July 29, 2009, before we went to bed, Ricky mustered up the courage and asked me to be his girlfriend. Our hearts were racing and those butterflies in our stomachs were going wild. I was dumbfounded in that moment... "Me? He wants to date me?" I needed to gather my thoughts so I told him to let me think about it and that I'd answer him the next day. Well, here we are... Over a decade later, still going the distance, and more in love than ever!
It was after a wonderful night of celebrating, dancing, and maybe a little drinking with great people at his family's Great Gatsby party! Throughout the night some of his family and our friends were acting slightly different; like randomly taking our photos or asking questions about whether I wanted to spend the rest of my life with Ricky. I mean, we can all agree that alcohol tends to make people more comfortable, honest, or straightforward, so it's no big deal. And we looked amazing, so what's wrong with capturing these moments, right? Well, I didn't pick up on anything... At least not until after the fact. Before we knew it, the party was over. After tidying up the event venue, we decided that we were going to celebrate some more at the Vue Residence. When we got to the house, Ricky suggested I used the bathroom before everyone arrived and it got busy, so I agreed. Everyone gathered downstairs and waited for me and then rumor had it that Mama and Papa Vue were going to do the beer bong, so I quickly headed down. As I walked down the stairs I thought to myself, "it's so quiet'". When I got to the bottom of the stairs, I decided to peak and see why it was so silent and that's when "Marry Me" by Train began to play. As my eyes wandered through the crowd, there Ricky was, standing inside the candle-lit heart at the end of the rose petal pathway that was lined with vases filled with firefly-lights! "Oh my gosh..." I thought. My emotions were everywhere from embarrassed to overjoyed! As I walked down the pathway to him, I couldn't hold back my tears and neither could he! Once I got to him, we took a moment and embraced each other. He then grabbed my hands, took a step back and looked me in the eyes and filled my ears and heart with the sweetest words. And there it was... He pulled out the ring as he got on one knee and then asked, "Ka Bao Yang, Will You Marry Me?"
