How We Met

High School Sweethearts

Josh & Jocelynn met in 2017 while they were both attending the same youth group at Cathedral of Faith. At the time Josh was drumming for the worship team, and Jocelynn was the new girl. Their friendship began as they both became heavily involved in student leadership. While their feelings for each other quickly grew, through mentorship they decided to do something that seemed foreign to several of their friends. Rather than jump right into dating, the two spent the next year seeing if they could grow a friendship, soon they became best friends. At the end of that year, on January 30, 2018 Josh asked Jocelynn to officially be his girlfriend and they have been together ever since.

Our First Date

Lookout Points and Hilltops

Josh & Jocelynn's first date was in the summer/fall of 2017. After a few months of getting to know each other via text, snapchat, kik, and facetime (lots of facetime calls), it was time to get off the phone and in person. The two decided they'd go on a walk around Almaden Lake Park in the afternoon. After walking the park for a while, Jocelynn noticed a dirt trail off to the side of the paved path. It was tucked away but they both wondered what was at the end... well Jocelynn wondered, Josh went along with it. To their surprise, the end of the path led to the top of a hill. It was a nice lookout point that held a single bench. There were also several trees that provided the two with some shade. One tree in particular stood out to Josh and he spent the next 20 minutes carving out our initials into the trunk inside a heart. In the spring of 2018, Jocelynn set up scavenger hunt for Josh to follow, which led him back to that same hilltop. She waited to surprise him with a "PROM-Posal" aka ask him to her senior prom... she was waiting for 2 hours... but that's a story for another time.

The Proposal

He took her breath away... literally

As many of you know, Friday nights are Josh & Jocelynn's date nights. Saturdays are adventure days. On this particular Friday, Jocelynn met Josh at his house per their usual routine. They enjoyed a nice meal and proceeded to watch a movie, when Jocelynn noticed Josh didn't look too good. She had a feeling Josh's adventure day would be a bust... The next day, Jocelynn called Josh to see what their adventure would be, but Josh was in fact running a fever. Jocelynn wasn't too bummed because she woke up that morning with a pretty intense stomach ache. She threw on sweats, packed a change of nice clothes per Josh's request, grabbed her bag of nail polish and headed over to his house. The rest of the day, Josh was in and out of consciousness while Jocelynn painted her nails and flipped through movies. Later in the afternoon, Josh woke up briefly to insist that Jocelynn wake him up again at 4:30, then quickly fell back to sleep. Confused she followed his instructions and at 4:30 he jumped up and began getting ready much to her surprise. They were out of the house by 5 pm, Jocelynn very confused about where the sick couple was driving to. They soon arrived at Almaden Lake Park. A very excited Josh had to drag a less than enthused Jocelynn out of the car. He then endured her several questions about where they were going, why they were going on a walk in their condition, and her numerous dramatic pauses to catch her breath (which she hoped would convince Josh to turn back to the car). Soon however, they were traveling up the trail to their spot. When Jocelynn turned to look at the view, trying to enjoy the walk she was dragged on, Josh pulled out a ring and was down on one knee. Jocelynn turned around and several happy tears filled her eyes. After about 60 seconds of shock, she accepted the proposal with a shout, "Of course!" Out from the bushes jumped a dear friend Nhi, who had done a walk through the day before with Josh, camera ready to capture the newly engaged couple.
