We’re getting married!

Most people think of 2020 as a year of dread, hopelessness, and stress. For us, 2020 was the year we met and fell in love, making it the best year of our lives (so far). We each "swiped right" on the other in April, 2020 on an app called "Coffee Meets Bagel." Although Juyeon initially ignored Jeff's first message, her friends encouraged her to respond and after a few days of texting, we agreed to meet for a date. Since most places were closed, we agreed to meet for drive through coffee/tea. It may have been simple, but the conversation just flowed and we talked for hours. When we eventually ended the date, we both knew we wanted to see each other again. Two days later, we drove out to Seven Magic Mountains in Jean, then followed it up with poke' bowls and ice cream. The real test was for Juyeon to meet Jeff's dog, Crockett. Lucky for everyone, that one was love at first sight! Because neither of us were working full time during the first few months of COVID, we had more time to spend with each other. We went hiking, cooked for each other, and took plenty of road trips. Juyeon introduced Jeff to Korean dramas and Jeff introduced Juyeon to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Over the course of the year, we fell more in love every day.

On our one-year anniversary, we decided to have a picnic at Spring Mountain Ranch Park. Of course, Crockett came along to roll in the grass. We couldn't have asked for a nicer day; beautiful blue skies and warm but not hot. After lunch, Jeff took Crockett to run around the grass while Juyeon relaxed at the picnic table. Jeff took Crockett behind a tree and slipped the ring on Crockett's collar. Then both Jeff and Crockett ran back to Juyeon. Unfortunately, Crockett ran right past her! Jeff quickly grabbed Crockett and got down on a knee, presenting Crockett to Juyeon (Simba style). When Juyeon saw the ring, she was so happy she started to cry. Jeff doesn't remember exactly what he said next, but of course Juyeon said YES!
