Travel partners for life <3
We met in English class our freshmen year of college at Cal State University Northridge during the Fall of 2014. Yes, you read that correctly - we met in ENGLISH class! Justin was a Mechanical Engineer major and Rina was a Child Development major. To this day, we are in shock with how we came into each other's lives! We instantly clicked as we spent more time together like meeting up in the library (sometimes at 8 in the morning!!), learning how to skateboard, getting our favorite java shake from Freudian Sip, and eating at the Orange Grove Bistro (their bistro burgers were bomb!).
We made it official in February of 2015 and we like to call this our "laundry commercial" moment. It's true, even our friends refer to it as that haha. When we think of laundry commercials, we think of jumping up and down with your partner while holding hands and spinning around and around in circles in slow motion. That was exactly what happened when Rina said yes to officially being Justin's girlfriend! We looked so silly but it felt like we were the only ones on Earth - just two people in love.
We went to Kona for the first time together but it wasn't going to be just a regular trip (well, it's never really an ordinary trip when you go to Hawaii ever). We had been to Oahu in 2020 but something about Kona was different. During this trip, we had planned to meet up with our photographer (Jessica Beamon) & her husband to do a couple's shoot just for fun since they were both in Kona as well. The day came for the shoot and let me tell ya, the weather in Hawaii is always SO unpredictable! When we got to the black sand beach, it was pouring rain and Rina thought it might be a bad idea to have our clothes soaking wet for the shoot. Eventually, the rain calmed down and we decided to give it a go. As soon as we were about to start, Justin decided to twirl Rina around right off the bat. Right when she turned her back while twirling, Justin got down on one knee and proposed. The rain started pouring again and we kid you not, it felt like a scene from the Notebook!! There was a huge crowd far away from us and saw this whole proposal happen and they shouted from the top of their lungs, "ALOHA!" Although we're not a big fan of rain, that day changed our perspectives and now we see rain as a good sign. A local even told us that when it rains, it's a sign of good omen. If you've made it this far, thank you for reading all the way! We are SO excited to celebrate this next chapter in our lives with you. See you in San Diego!
