We met at Moraine State Park when I was a summer intern and Juston was a seasonal ranger. He took me out on the lake to teach me how to drive the boat and showed me around the park while explaining his job duties as a park ranger. We had a lot in common right away and our conversation flowed effortlessly. That summer we were just acquaintances and never thought we'd see each other again once my internship ended. However, I came back to Moraine the following summer as a seasonal ranger and that's when our connection grew stronger. Pretending like we were just friends at work lasted only a few months and by the end of the summer, everyone knew we were officially dating.
Prior to the opening day of hunting, Juston wanted us to go to the gun range to sight in our rifles. I was feeling very tired that day and really didn't want to go with him, but he convinced me to get up off the couch and to the range we went despite my bad attitude. After helping me sight in my rifle at 25 yards, Juston walked down to place a target for me at 100 yards. I had absolutely no idea that he had something big planned. Before I sat down at the bench, he told me to set up my phone to record a video of me shooting. I thought nothing of it since we always take videos when we're at the gun range or shooting our bows. With my phone recording, I got set up behind my rifle and began to look through my scope. Juston then asked "What does it say?" and I started to complain about not being able to see through my scope correctly. Finally, I was able to see the target through my scope and realized that there was something written on the target. Juston asked again what it said and I read out loud "Will you marry me?". I instantly turned around to see Juston down on one knee with a ring in hand. Of course I said "YES" as tears streamed down my face and that's the story of how we got engaged. I still can't help but to laugh about how I almost ruined the best day of my life because I was in a bad mood all morning and almost didn't go with him that morning to the range. We're so excited to celebrate this next chapter in our lives with you. See you in Cook Forest!
