Things To Do

National Portrait Gallery

8th and F Streets, NW, Washington, DC 20001
, (202) 633-8300

Check out Justin's favorite exhibit "The Outwin 2019: American Portraiture Today." The Outwin features work by 50 finalists of a national portrait competition. The winning artworks reflect compelling and diverse approaches contemporary artists are using to tell the American story through portraiture. While you are there, say hello to the presidential portraits, find Karen's favorite portrait of Henrietta Lacks, and take a quick break in the Kogod Courtyard. Don't forget to check out the awesome gift shop.

National Museum of African American History and Culture

1400 Constitution Avenue Northwest, Washington, DC 20560
, (844) 750-3012

This is a can't miss museum. Note that you need tickets--and the ticketing policies change regularly--so check online in advance.

Hirshhorn Museum

7th Street Southwest, Washington, DC 20560
, (202) 633-1000

This is our favorite museum in DC.

Shaw Neighborhood

1847 7th Street Northwest, Washington, DC 20001
, (202) 525-5386

This is Karen and Justin's former neighborhood. Check out Calabash Tea. Bring a book, let the baristas help you choose a tea, have a jamaican pattie, and take in the local scene. After relaxing, head over to Justin's favorite bar Service Bar or Karen's favorite bar All Souls.

Petworth Neighborhood

809 Upshur Street Northwest, Washington, DC 20011
, (202) 853-9746

Check out Upshur street in Karen and Justin's new neighborhood of Petworth. It has Justin's favorite Pizza in DC at Timber Pizza, and a great bar called Dos Mamis. Alternatively, you could take a short walk down Georgia to Park View, enjoy breakfast at Call Your Mother (amazing bagels) or Heat da Spot, then pop over for outdoor day drinks at Midlands or Colony Club. You could also take a short walk to 14th and Quincy to grab dinner at Anafre (amazing Mexican food) and drinks at Red Derby (try the Baltimore Bulleit!)

Dupont Circle

Washington, DC 20036

If you are looking for a great Sunday morning activity, head to Dupont Circle. Stop by the Dupont Circle Farmers Market (8:30-1:30), then head to the weekly art market in Dupont Underground (11-6pm). Cap off your morning with breakfast at Kramerbooks (one of our favorite local book stores). If you are feeling adventurous, head down the street to the Shop Made in DC store to pick up some awesome local goods!
