It was roughly six years ago that I discovered how true the tagline above is, and just how beautiful the randomness of life can be. At the time, I was just focused on finishing up my degree at Central Michigan University and was not-at-all interested in dating. One night, despite my lack of desire to go, I decided to attend a party at one of our mutual friend’s apartments. It was about an hour after I showed up that Kaitlyn walked through the door, and I will never forget that moment. I was immediately struck by how beautiful she was, and that smile she was flashing would have caught anyone’s eye. I recall thinking that I would never forgive myself if there were not at least introductions that night, even if nothing came from it. Luckily, our mutual friend took care of that for us, and we hit it off. We started hanging out more often in our group of mutual friends, and that led to us developing a connection as friends ourselves. Our friendship grew over time, and eventually feelings were realized by both of us. However, both of us were also terrible at dropping hints, or picking up on them - I am not sure which. Kaitlyn really got the ball rolling on that next chapter of our story when she accidently let slip an “I love you” when she dropped me off the morning after a night out; even I couldn't ignore that hint. Although I just teased her about it, as I still do now, I will admit it was a nudge that made me realize I wanted to act on those feelings I knew I had. Eventually, I mustered up the courage to pop the question. We were carving pumpkins with our friends one night, and I used that as an opportunity to get a little creative. I carved some little ghosts and the phrase “Will you be my boooo?” into my pumpkin, and here we are. I could not be more thankful for the love that a random encounter brought me, and we are so excited to celebrate that love with you!
