Our story is about two imperfect people who found perfection within each other and somehow, despite the detours, we always made their way back to each other. It was 2015, even though we knew of each other we never spoke. So of course, like any other practical love story, we started talking from a “Lms (like my status) for a tbh (to be honest)” that Josh posted on Facebook and he slid in my dm to tell me how cute I was. At the time, we were a couple of broke teenagers in love sneaking around town going on dates to McDonald’s and Walmart or hanging out in the clubhouse in his neighborhood or my room. As a child of a strict Jamaican mom this all had to be a secret and he had to leave before she got home. One of our favorite memories is him hiding in my closet when my sister Kerry stopped by. The rest was history. Despite going to college in Buffalo, Josh joining the army and getting stationed in Germany and several breakups we just couldn't stay away from each other. I guess you can say we were soulmates or as Josh likes to call it- "4lifers".
Fast forward to 2022, Josh flew from Mississippi and planned a family dinner at the Black & Blue Steak & Crab in Buffalo, NY for my 23rd birthday. Now, if you know me you know how much I love to plan and micromanage things hence why I almost ruined my own engagement several times. When it was time for dessert, I blew out the candles and there was Josh with a heart shaped boxed that lit up the dark room and ring inside it (S/n: I promise, I’m not being corny, the box actually had a light inside lol). My eyes went big and I was too stunned to speak. Of course, Josh was so nervous he forgot his lines. It didn’t matter; I said “Yes!” probably 10 times anyway before Josh could even ask the question.
