Question

What should we expect weather wise?

Answer

In May in San Diego, you can expect 70s during the day and 60s in the evenings. Because the hotel is on the beach, when packing, prepare for it to be cool at night and bring some extra layers!

Question

What should we know about the Hotel del Coronado?

Answer

The historic Hotel del Coronado, also known as Hotel Del, located on the island of Coronado (Spanish for "Crowned") across the bay from downtown San Diego. When it opened in 1888-- only 11 months after construction began, it was considered the largest resort in the world. In 1977, the Hotel Del was designated a National Historic Landmark and, as one of the only lasting examples of classic Victorian Architecture, it's also the second largest wooden structure in the United States. In its early days, guest would come to Hotel Del and stay for months at a time to enjoy the weather of Southern California from the places like the East Coast or Europe.

Question

Where have I seen Hotel Del before?

Answer

With a long over 130 year history, it is no wonder the Hotel Del has left its mark on pop culture. In fact, it has served as the back drop or inspiration for numerous movies, books, TV shows, and was a popular destination for celebrities and presidents. Here are some of our favorites! - Some Like It Hot, starring Marilyn Monroe, Tony Curtis, and Jack Lemmon was filmed at the Hotel Del. Keep a look out for the Dragon Tree on the property which was featured prominently in the film. - L. Frank Baum, the author of 'The Wonderful Wizard of Oz' frequently vacationed at the Hotel Del and would eventually buy a home on Coronado. It is said that Hotel Del inspired Emerald City! In fact, L. Frank Baum also would design four chandeliers, in the shape of Crowns in honor of the namesake of Coronado, for one of the main ballrooms at the hotel -- one of which is still on the property today! - The Hotel Del is also a big plot point in an episode of Grace and Frankie with Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin.

Question
