Please dress beach formal for the wedding. Think Tulum Luxe. Beachy, but elegant. The ceremony and reception will take place in the sand. So, shoes are optional!
Tulum is basically an all cash town! It's a good idea to have pesos on you at all times. It's best to exchange dollars at your departure airport or before you plan to travel (lines are long and the exchange rate is bad at the Cancun airport). Otherwise, stop at the ATM at the Chedruai (the big grocery store on the way into Tulum) or the HSBC in the pueblo. Don't rely on ATMs throughout the zona hotelera.
Tulum is a laid back beach town - a place to unplug. Though the wedding will be elegant, plan to embrace your boho self for the rest of the time! Think bikinis, beach cover-ups, sandals and straw hats. Bug spray - Tulum is basically a jungle on the beach so there are a ton of mosquitos. And apparently they are out for blood. Make sure to bring strong bug spray (with deet!) - I've heard the bug repellent bracelets work well too. Sunscreen - the Mayan sun is really strong. Pack biodegradable sunscreen if you plan to swim in the cenotes! Bring a fab straw hat and good sunglasses too.
If you want the ease of getting around quickly, consider renting a car at the airport. If you are staying at a hotel along the beach, then consider renting a bike. A lot of hotels and rentals offer free bikes. There is a bike path that runs from downtown to the southern beach area - it takes around 15-20 minutes to go one way. You can reserve bikes here and have them delivered to your hotel/rental: https://www.ibiketulum.com Cabs are also a good option, but I hear it can sometimes be hard to flag one down. Consider taking cabs throughout the evening because the roads by the beach aren't lit up at night.
Tulum has an incredible culinary scene. You can find amazing restaurants both downtown and by the beach.
