Things To Do

The Wedding Website of Justin McClarey and Philip Ross
Sharon is a charming (if slightly remote) little town near the border between Connecticut and New York, and we encourage everyone to take advantage of the scenic views and explore the local shops and eateries. Be warned- you'll probably want to load up the directions to your destination while you have WiFi, because consistent cell service is hard to come by (to put it mildly)
Millerton

Millerton

Millerton, NY

Located just across the NY border, Millerton is a lovely village with shops and art galleries that make it a must-visit for the area. Some notable points of interest include: - Millerton Antique Center, Montage Antiques, & Hunter Bee: you could spend a whole afternoon just in these three shops (trust us, we have!) - Irving Farm: local coffee house chain - Candy-O's: candy and ice cream, perfect summertime combo! - Oblong Books: support a local bookstore that just celebrated its 50th anniversary!

Lakeville

Lakeville

Salisbury, CT

Did you know Lakeville is home to Connecticut's deepest natural lake! We sure didn't- but probably could have guessed something pretty close based on the name of the place. Notable points of interest: - Lake Wononscopomuc: the aforementioned deepest lake - Lakeville Historic District: with architecture dating back to the 1750s, is anyone surprised it's listed on the National Register of Historic Places? - Hotchkiss School: objectively pretty campus but they stole one of our hotels for their Parent's Weekend or something so boooooo - Elephant Trunk Flea: for those with extra time the day after the wedding, this flea market operates every Sunday and is worth stopping in to before you head home!

Kent

Kent

Kent, CT

The home of Connecticut's tallest waterfall AND it's longest covered bridge?? What DOESN'T Kent have?! (Technically it doesn't have the longest bridge because that's 15 minutes out of town, but I'm not making a separate recommendation section for West Cornwall so it's gotta go somewhere). Notable points of interest: - Historic West Cornwall Covered Bridge: as mentioned above, not actually in Kent but close enough. Longest in the state! - Kent Falls: actually in Kent, AND actually the tallest in the state! - Kent Falls Brewing Company: looking to pregame before the wedding? Look no further, my friend! - Bicycle Tour Company Kent: looking to get in a quick team-building activity before the wedding? Look no further, my friend!

Hudson

Hudson

Hudson, NY 12534

For those with some extra time on their hands and don't mind a longer drive, Hudson, NY is about a 45 minute drive away but absolutely worth the trip! Described as "Upstate’s Favorite Downtown" (granted, by their own tourism board, so take that for what it's worth), Hudson has book shops, antique stores, galleries, bars, breweries, cafes, and more! If you can find the time while you're visiting, we cannot recommend this detour enough.

Tons of Hiking Trails!

Tons of Hiking Trails!

It's no secret that Western Connecticut and the Hudson Valley have some of the most picturesque locations- Sharon, CT alone has over 800 acres of land open to public use! There's truly too many to choose from, so we'd recommend visiting the Sharon Land Trust's website, picking whichever one looks prettiest to you, and hitting the trail!
