How We Met

5.26.07

We met on Myspace our senior year of high school, clicking instantly! Terrified that our parents would disapprove and punish us for meeting online, we lied and said we met at my [Meladie] job, Gordmans Department Store. After the first date, my mother told me that Justin was "the one." On the contrary, his mother told him that I wasn't because I was "high maintenance" (haha). I will admit that in my younger days, I was feeling myself - a lot! As time went on, we ended up being accepted to two different universities, and we separated. Looking back at that time, I admit that I was young, dumb, naive, and stubborn. I had no idea or understanding of how much Justin offered as a partner, friend, and soulmate. I took him for granted, we made some mistakes, and the Lord allowed us to cross paths again.... and again..... and again.... I guess the beauty of it all is that what the Lord has joined together no man can separate. Can I get an AMEN? Haha.

The Proposal

11.26.20

So I had this wonderful idea to cook 90% of the food for Thanksgiving AND host it at my parent's home. Why? I don't know. Anyone who knows my mom knows that she is a clean freak. No disrespect or pun intended; it's just the truth. So long story short, I cleaned (to her expectations) and cooked (according to my nana's), which exhausted me mentally, emotionally, and physically. By the time I was able to sit down, it was almost eight o'clock pm. All I could think about was having a glass of wine and putting my feet up in the recliner. I kid you not; when I did it, my mom called my name to help with something else. I remember staring at the ceiling and asking the Lord, "why... why me, Lord?" I got up from my beloved seat and walked up a short set of stairs to find Justin standing there in the dark with candle-lit bags spelling "Marry Me" and flower petals surrounding him. I froze for a few minutes and looked around the room. My family and his had their cameras rolling while they smiled with excitement. I called for my step-dad, who had been sitting next to me, asking him to come and see this because I was so confused. Justin gave a speech that I am sure was heartfelt, but to be honest, I do not remember what he said. I only remember thinking, "finally, it's about damn time!". Oh, and I said, "YES!"
