How We Met

In August 2021 on Facebook dating (the only thing they will ever be grateful to Mark Zuckerberg for), two paths crossed in the most them way. Jay noticed Megan first and thought, "short, cute and a history nerd?" He was intriqued immediately. Megan on the other hand was not just taken by his smile, but because tucked into the background of one of his photos was none other than Jimi Hendrix. And to Megan, that said everything. Anyone who appreciated Hendrix had to have a story and a vibe she couldn't ignore. Naturally, Jay was cautious, so he needed to confirm she wasn't secretly crazy, so he suggested they swap Snapchat info. Soon, their conversations stretched into late nights, often while Jay worked his shifts at Lincoln Electric. The first date? Well...it didn't happen. At least, not at first. When Jay had to cancel, Megan figured she'd be ghosted, but plot twist, he rescheduled. And he actually showed up. And Megan? She showed up too...in full 60s-inspired, hippie-inspired glam, which included colorful makeup, intentional vibes, a quiet nod to the energy she thought Jay might appreciate. On August 29, 2021, at the Cleveland Museum of Art, Megan met a tall, handsome man wearing boldly colorful leggings and a graphic tee, definitely sticking true to the vibes she thought she picked up over the phone. Even though they were a bit shy, they started with art, but they quickly became comfortable. Megan listened as Jay spoke about different artists and styles, not just what they were, but how they felt. His intellect and the way he saw the world fascinated her. Then Jay suggested something unexpected: a selfie. Megan had never taken a first-date selfie before, but in that moment it felt right; like capturing the beginning of something neighter of them could quite name yet. And neither of them was ready for it to end. So, they wandered to Little Italy for food, where of course there was the cliche sudden rainstrom. Without hesitation, Jay gave Megan his jacket. Then lunch turned into dessert at Mitchell's with one hot fudge sudae, and two spoons. And that turned into a walk at Edgewater Park, where they sat on the beach until nightfall, talking, laughing and slowly realizing they didn't want to say goodbye. From that day forward, their world expanded together. Jay shared the beauty of the Metroparks, showing Megan his favorite hidden corncers of nature. Megan introduced Jay to her love for Halloween stores and somewhere in the darkness of a haunted house, he held onto her just a little tighter. Weeks turned into something more and during Megan's very first camping trip, guided by Jay, that made it official. And then came years. These years were filled with laugher, tears, challenges that strengthened them and moments big and small that shaped them into better versions of themselves; not just as individuals, but as partners. Then in December 2024, nearly four years after their museum date, life slowed down for just a moment. Megan was sitting in the living room watching TV in her bonnet, eatting leftover pizza and completely unaware that her life was about to change. Jay walked in and asked, casually, "can I ask you something?" She turned down the TV and then he was one knee. Pulling out a small blue velvet box from his pocket, a big question lingered in the air. "Will you marry me?" He asked. For a moment, everything paused, until Megan realized this was real. And of course, she said, "yes!" At this point in their relationship, it was already obvious: They weren't just in love, they were home. And now, they stuck with each other in the very best way.
