They remember the night they first met, but it was a rather slow start to something that would evolve into an incredible journey. Justin had been trying to find the right one for quite some time but had never made that perfect connection. Justin and Leah met through a mutual friend, a friend they had both known for many years, yet had somehow never crossed paths. Over a span of a year, they ran into each other occasionally, but were never official (like a referee whistle). Leah was a little hesitant to be in a relationship, but was undeniably drawn to Justin. Her heart felt light, face hurt from laughter, and she knew she had met her best friend. After trips with friends, sporadic outings, and plenty of solo time, on July 4th weekend of 2016 they both decided they wanted to see where this path took them. Over the next 15-16 months they continued to grow closer and saw that this relationship was more than they both could have ever imagined. Incorporating Landon and Holden later into the relationship seemed so natural and comfortable. The boys began to bond with Justin, and Justin with them. Many of their friends would comment with, "he's kind of killin this Dad thing". Justin knew early in 2017 that he had met his "forever" companion and family. Leah knew that she had truly found her best friend and also a father figure, who would influence the boys in such a positive way.

The proposal was planned months ahead of the date. Justin had Leah's sister fly into town to surprise her on a Friday. Leah initially thought this was "the night". When it didn't happen that night Leah thought maybe it was just going to be a fun, unplanned weekend with her sister. That next night we had "plans" to meet up with friends for drinks before heading out. Justin's heart was racing 1,000 beats per minute! When Justin went down on one knee, the same time Leah was coming around the corner it nearly scared her to death! He delivered a heartfelt message and Leah said YES! After being engaged they went to a restaurant where Justin had a bunch of their friends and family waiting for their arrival as a 2nd surprise!
