Justin traveled to Austin from College Station, where he was living and I had just moved from, bright and early one morning for a day full of typical Austinite adventures that I had planned. We headed to Barton Springs with my dog, Riggins, only for it to start raining. Luckily, the rain didn't last long so we headed to Uncle Billy's Brewery, one of Riggins' favorite restaurants, for lunch. After lunch we dropped Riggins off at my parents house because that's where I was living. I wasn't a fan of my parents meeting Justin on our first date... I mean it was our FIRST DATE... but it happened anyway. For the rest of the afternoon Justin and I went paddle boarding on Lady Bird Lake and then ate dinner at Moonshine. Moonshine became our "special occasion" go to spot. We finished the night out on 6th street so Justin could see what all the hype was about and after we left there we had our first kiss and we've been inseparable since!
It all started the Thursday before... I wasn't feeling too hot Thursday afternoon when I got home from work but I decided to grab the mail on the way in. Strangely enough, I didn't even look through the mail, I left it on the counter and took a nap. Justin came home shortly after, sifted through the mail and started acting odd about something that was in there. I asked him what was in the mail but he wouldn't let me see, I was thinking the worst, but it turned into this ongoing joke between the two of us for the next couple of days. Fast forward to Saturday... Little did I know, Justin planned for Saturday to be a recreation of our first date. He suggested taking Riggins to Barton Springs which I quickly shot down because it was rainy and "Riggins' paws needed a break." He got me to agree to go kayaking, which was going to be in place of the paddle boards because we were new kayak owners. It still rained on us, which was fitting since we had gotten rained on on our first date. Earlier in the week Justin had asked me if I wanted to go to Moonshine for dinner so after kayaking we were getting ready to head out when Justin came up holding an envelope out in front of me. I was confused until Justin starting getting down on one knee and reaching for his pocket all while "our song" was playing in the background. Justin professed his love for me, I cried [of course] and now here we are planning a wedding! The envelope ended up being the invoice for my ring that was supposed to be emailed to him and not sent in the mail! Phew that was close!
Come to find out, when we went to my parents house after dinner to tell them the news and show off my new bling, my dad had proposed to my mom on the same exact day 29 years earlier! Must be fate!
