Our love story began in high school, unbeknownst to us. Justin was all set to go to his senior prom when his date canceled weeks in advance. Through a mutual friend, Kayla was hand selected to save the day. We went to prom as friends, and nothing more. We remained friends throughout the years and happened to reconnect by chance 12 years later. Prior to reconnecting, Kayla dated a few men, but none of those relationships worked out for whatever reason. During the Summer of 2018, Kayla had a talk with God and became more specific with her prayers as she became tired of failed relationships and knew the culprit: she was not putting God first. Throughout this period, Kayla shifted her focus from "boyfriend" to "husband" and remained hopefully optimistic that would God reveal to her a man who was God-fearing and intentional about his plans.. On July 29, 2018, Kayla casually posted a video with the caption, “I’m done with boyfriends, if you need a wife, hit me up" and guess who was the first person to respond with an Instagram direct message? Justin! Although Kayla hadn’t seen him in 12 years, she figured he was a good guy and agreed to a first date, in which they talked for hours! After their first date, Kayla knew there was something so different about Justin. After their 5th date, Justin flew to Nairobi, Kenya to serve on a missions trip with his church. While away, he made it a point to text her "Good Morning" everyday despite the time difference. As the saying goes, "distance makes the heart grow fonder". We decided to make things exclusive and work towards a relationship 16+ hours away. Once Justin returned, we continued to grow closer and registered for pre-marital counseling, which confirmed our love for each other. Neither of us could have imagined that God would start writing our love story 12 years ago, but obviously God knew! Justin popped the question on December 7, 2019 surrounded by family and friends.
