Justin and Katie first met through mutual friends—on the ice, naturally. Justin was there as a shooter at goalie ice, while Katie was preparing to take her next big step from junior hockey to university. What started as casual encounters quickly grew into a friendship. Week after week, they found themselves back at the rink—laughing, working hard, and always competing to prove who was the better hockey player. Of course, there was one rivalry they could never escape: Justin, a die-hard Montreal Canadiens fan, and Katie, a loyal Toronto Maple Leafs fan. Despite the eternal hockey feud, Justin embraced Katie’s goalie side wholeheartedly, drawn to her laugh, her energy, and her wonderfully quirky spirit.

Friendship soon blossomed into something more, and in the summer of 2019, their relationship began. Justin was away at Police College, and though their schedules were busy, weekends became their time together—filled with adventures, laughter, and the comfort of each other’s company. When fall arrived, Justin returned to work while Katie began her journey at the University of Guelph. Even through the challenges of university life and the isolation of COVID, they made every effort to see one another—Justin cheering Katie on at her games, Katie coming home for his graduation, and both carving out time on off days to be together. Life eventually slowed down when Katie graduated and moved in with Justin. Their days together were filled with laughter, games, and the joy of simply living side by side. In 2024, they embarked on a new adventure together—coaching girls’ hockey in Brampton. Katie led the way, with Justin joining her on the bench soon after. Coaching became another passion they shared, a way to give back to the community that had shaped them both. In the most fitting of places—on the ice, surrounded by the girls they coached—Justin dropped to one knee. Their love story had come full circle: proof that even a Habs fan and a Leafs fan can find common ground, build a life together, and show that sometimes the greatest win is love itself.

As they embark on their future marriage, Justin and Katie look forward to a lifetime filled with laughter, love, and the kind of playful rivalry that first brought them together. With both balancing hectic work and hockey schedules, they have learned that joy is found not only in the big milestones but also in the small, everyday moments—quiet dinners, silly games, and shared smiles after long days. Through every challenge life may bring, they remain each other’s greatest teammate—proof that whether cheering for the Habs or the Leafs, their hearts will always be on the same side. Together, they are excited to write the next chapter of their story, one filled with love, adventure, and the promise of forever.
