Independence Pass, part of Colorado State Highway 82, passes over the Continental Divide between Leadville and Aspen, Colorado. At 12,095ft at the summit, Independence Pass is the highest paved pass in the state. Numerous hiking trails are found just off the road, so bring your hiking boots! Warning: This drive is not for the faint of heart with fears of heights. Two lanes are sometimes condensed to one with obstructed turns, use caution and drive slow between Continental Divide and Aspen. Switchbacks with steep edges and minimal guard rails.
