Mount Magazine State Park offers some of the best hiking in Arkansas along with a variety of Arkansas outdoor adventure activities. Begin your adventure at the park visitor center. Information, exhibits, supplies, and gifts are available there. The USDA Forest Service has additional brochures and topographic maps of hiking trails in Arkansas at their Paris office. Explore the Arkansas mountain biking trails, hang gliding locations and more! Hikers can take a hike on the Signal Hill Trail, or the Greenfield, Benefield, Mossback Ridge, or Will Apple's Road Trails and explore the many natural and historical resources of the mountain as well as stunning views of Bear Hollow, the Arkansas River Valley and Blue Mountain Lake. Hiking trails vary in length from .5 to 2.8 miles. The total trails system in the park is 14.2 miles.

Rock Climbing

Mount Magazine, Arkansas' 2,753-foot high point is the most dramatic location for technical rock climbing in Arkansas. This flat-topped mountain, with its rugged bluffs, deep canyons and natural diversity, is the highest peak in Arkansas. Traditional Arkansas bouldering and sport climbing as well as rappelling is allowed in a designated area on the mountain's south bluff overlooking the Petit Jean River Valley. This 1,500-foot wide stretch of sandstone boasts more than 100 routes up to 80 feet high, ranging from 5.5 to 5.12c in difficulty, with plenty in the 5.10 and under range as well as plenty of Arkansas bouldering areas. Before rock climbing in Arkansas at Mount Magazine, you are required to register at the state park visitor center. Book a guided climb at Petit Jean State Park through Frontier Climbing Co.

Rising high above the Petit Jean River Valley and Arkansas River Valley, 2,753-foot Mount Magazine has near perfect conditions for flight, making it one of the best hang gliding locations in the Arkansas. Hang gliding only happens when the Mount Magazine weather is right but this has been one of the most popular hang gliding locations for a long time. So even if you like to keep both feet on the ground you can still enjoy watching the hang gliders take to the skies.
