A typical afternoon at work, a job interviewee arrived at our office. She walked in glowing with a beautiful smile that instantly brightened the room. Her name was Anna. She greeted us warmly, and the moment she smiled, my heart did somersaults. It’s hard to admit, but I was already infatuated with her the very first time I saw her. Months later, I heard the news that she had been hired by the company. When she returned for her contract signing, she was all dressed up in a blue sleeveless dress. What she didn’t know was that the company had a strict dress code policy. As she stood near the lobby, looking a bit lost, I noticed the security guard heading her way with a stern look, ready to point out the dress code violation before she could even sign on the dotted line. Before the guard could say a word, I stepped in. I slipped off my blazer and gently draped it over her shoulders. Then I congratulated her on the job offer and gave her a reassuring smile. That oversized blazer became the ultimate icebreaker. Anna was assigned to a different branch office. Fortunately for me, she spent a month training at our branch, and that gave me the chance to get to know her better. Every day, I would see her smiling face and feel the warmth of her presence. The more we talked, the more intrigued I became. What started as curiosity and infatuation slowly grew into something much deeper. After a few weeks, her training came to an end, and she bid farewell to all of us. I knew I wouldn’t be seeing her around the office anymore. Then came December — Christmas, to be exact. Without hesitation, I sent her a Christmas greeting, and that simple message became the beginning of our conversations on social media. When she returned to Bacolod after the holidays, I asked if we could have dinner together. Anna told me she had already eaten, but she was heading out to buy groceries. We met at Robinsons that evening, and that became our first time seeing each other outside of work. From then on, we became dinner-and-grocery buddies. Together, we navigated the hectic world of retail corporate life, spending late nights talking about everything from our biggest dreams to our favorite grocery snacks. I made it my personal mission to make sure Anna always had a blazer, a snack, and a reason to smile during stressful workdays. In January 2018, she invited me to her hometown to celebrate their festival. By then, the feelings I had kept bottled up for months could no longer be hidden. I even gathered the courage to tell her parents about my intentions for their daughter. By then, our friendship had grown into something undeniable. On February 1, 2018, I took her out, determined to finally ask the question that had been on my mind since the day we first met at the office. Thankfully, she said yes to being my girlfriend. By God’s grace, eight years have passed, and she is still the woman I want to spend the rest of my life with — the woman I want to call my wife.
