Question

What will the weather be like in February?

Answer

Since we are getting married in winter, the weather can vary greatly. Most of our family and friends will be traveling from New York and Michigan- so the winter weather you encounter at home will be similar in Iceland. It could be snowing, windy, cold, raining, or possibly the sun shining and temps in the 40s or 50s! Sunrise happens around 830AM and sunset is around 630PM.

Question

What is it like driving in Iceland?

Answer

If you are comfortable with driving in both inner city and country settings during winter weather, you will be able to navigate the island. Inner city travel is multiple lanes (2 to 6) and most intersections are roundabouts. Driving is on the righthand side of the road. The main road that circles the island is Ring Road (Route 1). If you are staying in Iceland for longer than just our wedding, we highly recommend traveling the entire Ring Road! The geography is breathtaking and no two areas look the same!

Question

What type of clothes should I pack?

Answer

Just like any NY or MI winter at home, dressing in layers will be your best bet! We highly recommend a thick, durable waterproof winter coat, boots, hat and gloves.

Question

What do I need to know about the ceremony site?

Answer

Our ceremony will be inside the Caves of Hella on the Southern coast, approximately one hour drive from Reykjavik. Please wear warm boots as it could potentially be snowy, icy, or muddy. There is a less than 5 minute walk from the parking lot to the cave, and a restroom will be available. If you are handicapped or disabled, we will be able to transport you to about 100 feet from the cave entrance, and there is a small set of about 10 stairs down into the cave. Please expect to stand for the duration of our short ceremony (there will be a small number of chairs available for any handicapped/disabled guests). Please bring your dancing shoes in addition to your boots! Our reception will be indoors at Ingolfsskali Viking Restaurant with a cash bar

Question

What do I need to know about the reception?

Answer

There will be axe throwing (weather permitting) There will be drinking -Two drink tokens for each guest for beer & wine -Cash bar for liquor, mead, and additional drinks There will be traditional Icelandic food & desserts served buffet style -bring your sense of adventure & your appetite There will be dancing -bring your dancing shoes & most epic moves

Question

Would you be so kind as to make a checklist for things I should do to prepare for my trip?

Answer

You are so lucky we like you.. here's your to do list! :p Get your Passport(s) Book flights Book rental car Book hotel Order yourself a sturdy, waterproof winter jacket, boots, hat & gloves Pick out your fanciest attire to dance & party it up in a Viking Hall Bring something to layer on top of your fancy outfit for the ceremony itself- we'll be underground in the Caves of Hella & it's a bit cool in there. If you're staying for longer than just our wedding, we highly recommend Googling cool things to do in Iceland. If you enjoy spending time outside seeing natural anomalies, you are in luck, Iceland is FULL of them. Book an excursion, or stick to all the main tourist attractions right off of Route 1. But PLEASE enjoy your time in the Land of Fire and Ice! :)
