In 2022, they got to know each other through serving in the children's ministry in church. Common friends who know about them serving together shared funny stories about Junxian to Steph and asked if she would be interested in him. Steph was joining one Alpha session with a visitor in the same period and didn't realise Junxian was facilitating the session. Her impression of him changed since then and she texted a close friend about it. It was only when they took the same module in Bible college in the 2023 that they started noticing each other's endearing qualities as they see each other in class weekly.

Robert (our church leader) was among one of the people who asked Steph if she will be interested in Junxian during their rides back home from college. At the same time, he was asking Junxian if he was considering anyone before he introduce people to him (interestingly, that included Steph). That was when Junxian realised that he was interested in Steph, and made use of an Easter event that they were serving together for to ask Steph out to "discuss", and expressed interest to get to know Steph more on April Fool's Day.

Steph: Junxian is humble and gentle, loves God, spars thoughts with me and comfortable to be around. We're kind of opposites, he's chill while I'm overly ambitious so he keeps me grounded. His liking towards children and willingness to serve others showed me his genuine interest in people, which is something I value. The most of all: it was not in the searching we found each other, but in the midst of us serving God that He brought us together. JX: Steph likes to be organised, keeps learning and can have high expectations for things. But perhaps, that's also how she always points (nags) me in the right direction. I also saw how Steph cares for others and was touched by her genuine heart for God and His people.

We spend most of our time eating, exercising, going for musicals or plays, and talking about things on our hearts. Steph has managed to convince Junxian to join her for rock climbing sessions a few times, with the help of friends (that's an accomplishment)! Aside from that, we are activities people so you can find us learning or doing new things together often!

We want to remember that both of us chewshi (choose) to be committed in this marriage journey, just as how Christ chose to give Himself for us and remained faithful as we keep in step with Him. It is a reminder that entering into marriage is a covenantal choice of two imperfect people and is not conditional. Only because of God's grace for us, we can serve Him together and continue to be used for His purpose with our time on earth.
