Adam and I first met when I was 15 and he was 16. We were on a mission trip to New Jersey to help with Hurricane Sandy clean-up. I sat next to my closest friend from church, and as luck would have it, right in front of Adam and his much more outgoing friend, Micah. Caroline and I probably would’ve spent the entire 25-hour bus ride talking only amongst ourselves, but fortunately Micah was there to break the ice and introduce himself and Adam. By the end of the trip, we had become friends both on Facebook and in real life. For the rest of high school, our communication was limited to the occasional “happy birthday” or “how’s it going” messages, but of course, our story doesn’t end there. Fast forward to college, where we were both attending UNO and involved in sports clubs. We learned through a mutual friend that we had both gone up to him and said something along the lines of “I know them from high school, but I’m not sure they remember me.” Then, he gave us some advice we apparently needed, “Stop being so awkward and just go talk to each other.” Eventually we listened to him and started to reconnect. After a couple months of friendship, we officially started dating. Four years and one dog later, Adam proposed at a winery on a family trip to my grandma’s cabin. And now, we can’t wait to celebrate the start of this next chapter with our loved ones! A big thanks to all our family and friends for being a part of our story.
