Our Story

Vancouver, the other Vancouver

The trip that began it all: We first met through our mutual friend Tyler in June 2011. On Tyler’s 21 birthday, a group of us met up at his house to carpool to Portland. Taylor randomly got into Samson's car, who agreed to be one of the DDs. Thus, the first meeting. Over the next year and a half, Samson and Taylor saw each other here and there, usually at Tyler’s house, when the friend group got together. During that time, Samson became really close friends with Edna, Taylor’s best friend. March 2013. Edna and Taylor planned a road trip to Vancouver, B.C. with other friends. August 1, 2020: Several engagement plans had fallen through and this was the one that had to work. Samson invited his nephew over to go hiking with him and Taylor. Samson looped Jeramiah in on the plan. As we were about to leave, Samson asked Jeramiah to "forget his wallet" so that the ring could be snagged from the house to accompany them on the trip. Samson picked Walupt Falls, a waterfall hike three hours away and off the beaten path, to help ensure there would be less people and not another surprise wedding to ruin the plans. We had not been before and were excited to see if we could get in some really good rock hunting. We began the hunt and Jeramiah "claimed" he found good ones by the water fall. Samson pointed down and told Taylor to look in the water for the "pretty rock." While Taylor was distracted, Samson got down on one knee and proposed with a ring that belonged to Taylor's Great Grandmother.
