Who is Anthony Avalos?

Answer

Anthony Avalos grew up in Milpitas, CA. At 18, he moved to North Carolina where he enrolled in the NASCAR Technical Institute. He had been introduced to racing a few years prior and loved the idea of making it a career. The next decade, he spent it working in various capacities for multiple race teams and performance and restoration shops. During this time, he lived and traveled all over the country. After 10 years of grueling work, he decided he wanted to go back to school and change his focus to the sciences. He was accepted and graduated from University of California, San Diego with a degree in Chemistry/Bio-Chemistry. His first job after UCSD took him to Thousand Oaks (North of LA), which is how he made it on the Hinge algorithm for Julissa to swipe right on him! He enjoys the outdoors, especially camping, hiking, and fishing. He's trying to convince Julissa that when you have the proper equipment, these experiences can be fun.

Who is Julissa Barajas? Now known as Julissa Avalos

Answer

Julissa was born and raised in Santa Ana, CA (the Real Orange County, not the phony one you see on TV). At the age of 14 she was awarded a scholarship and moved to Connecticut to attend high school. While trying to move back to CA for college, she landed in the middle and attended Denison University in Ohio. After college, she moved back to Orange County and soon after, landed a job with Kaiser Permanente. She thought this was going to be a part-time, temporary gig and little did she know it would become a career. She's been with Kaiser Permanente for almost 13 years in 5 positions that took her from Pasadena, to Vallejo, to San Francisco, to Oakland, and now back to Southern CA in Panorama City. While at Kaiser Permanente, she earned a Master's in Public Health from UCLA. She loves working for Kaiser Permanente and can't imagine working anywhere else. Julissa loves to travel and is excited to have a permanent travel buddy! She's visited over 40 countries!

Her laugh is what drew him in and the sparkle in her big brown eyes is what won him over! Her thirst for life and adventure. Her intelligence. Her goofiness. But mostly her chipotle salsa! Bam!

Everything! Can she just say that? Honestly, it's hard to pick one, but if she had to pick one, she’d say it's the way he goes along with all her silly requests – like facials! Yes, Anthony now participates in monthly at-home-facials!

Julissa and Anthony ventured out into the COVID-filled streets of NoHo to a trendy taco truck – El Venado – where they thought they were going to catch COVID because nobody was practicing social distancing or proper hygiene. The tacos were super tasty and they managed to dodge COVID. On the bright side, they were all masked!

You won't believe this... 6 hours! Anthony showed up in NoHo at 6pm and left at midnight! We're telling you, this connection was strong from the beginning!

Answer

After playing hard to get and not giving Julissa a good-night kiss on their first date, Anthony set up the perfect situation on their second date for Julissa to sneak in and plant a big one on him. They were in the middle of the berry fields at Underwood Farms. Muah!

Well, Anthony holds the title right now, but Julissa has been practicing at night, after Anthony goes to bed and is looking to challenge him any day now! Anthony says he continuously beats her in his sleep, so it should be an interesting rematch.

One week! When you know, you know! Right? It wasn’t an easy yes. When Anthony asked Julissa to go steady, she countered by saying she would only say yes if he could come up with a clever couple’s name. She knew this relationship was different and it was going to go the distance. In order to establish themselves as a power couple, they needed a strong couple’s name. Where was their first vacation?

Answer

Julissa and Anthony took a week off in August and traveled to Reno (where Julissa met Anthony's mom, uncle, stepfather, and some of his friends), Mammoth Lakes, and San Diego. It was in San Diego, that some of Julissa's friends met Anthony. And, where Julissa said, "I Love You." Immediately after, he said it too!

Oh yes! They are all about it! Well, maybe Julissa is all about it, but Anthony goes along with it since she has such great taste. They have two pairs of matching sneakers, matching beach hats, matching backpacks and at one-point matching sunglasses. This is a dream come true for Julissa!

Where should we start? -they both lived in Connecticut -they both dislike mushrooms but will tolerate them if already included in a meal -they both dislike black olives -they both have a sweet tooth, especially for the Tres Leches cake from Costco -they both left home for college -While Julissa works for Kaiser Permanente, Anthony was born at a Kaiser Permanente hospital and his sister works for Kaiser Permanente -they both have family in the small town of Manteca, CA -the both love to travel.
