Many say the beautiful game of soccer leads them to meet so many great people, in our case we could also say it helps lead you to your soul mate. The spring of 2016, we both decided to transfer to West Texas A&M to play soccer, and there our story began. For the next couple of years we would “eye” each other out, but it wasn’t until Julio decided to join a semipro indoor soccer team in Amarillo, that sparks flew between us. The team would go on to win their championship game, and follow it up with a fun celebration. That night, once we built up the courage to offer each other a drink, we were inseparable and danced and laughed the night away. By the end of the night we agreed to go on a date, and after that we would go on to talk for the next couple of months; but sadly we lived about 6 hours away from each other. On September of 2019, we decided to actually date, we knew long distance would be tough, but decided to go ahead with it. We would go on and show our commitment to each other by traveling to see each other as much as we could. We then dated for the next two and a half years until we finally decided we could no longer be far from each other. On May of 2022 we decided to end our long distance relationship and move in together. After 5 months of living together Julio popped the big question.
On November 5th 2022, Julio asked me to join him to a “work” brunch at the Dallas Arboretum, where he secretly gathered our families. The morning of, as we walked by the gazebo I saw some rose pettals on the ground and letters that spelled out “Marry Me”. I then said to Julio “hey look someone is getting proposed to”, and at that moment Julio started pulling me towards that area. I resisted and said “no don’t go that way you’re going to mess it up”. As Julio began to get on one knee, my heart stopped as I realized it was for me. It was such a great surprise having our loved ones there for such a special moment. A few years later, this love story continues!
