Julio and I met in high school in french class our junior year but didn't really get to know each other (also we had french code names which made things more difficult- what is that cute guy Pierre's actual name again??) Fast forward 11 years later... I had lost my retainer on a work trip and was worried my teeth would start shifting. If you're thinking this story doesn't sound romantic or appealing.. you're right but just wait. With some facebook sleuthing I tracked down an orthodontist in town from my high school, Julio, and messaged him about it. He was very warm and friendly and told me he'd take care of everything. When I showed up at his office and he came out to greet me, it dawned on me that this really hot guy would be looking very closely in my mouth and taking all kinds of unflattering cheek spreader pictures of me. Despite all this, we became friends and started hanging out. He told me that he was moving to Austin but would keep his practice in San Antonio, so we didn't see each other as much for a while- but it was obvious there was a spark and an instant comfort. Over the years, our friend group merged more and more, and we began to see each other regularly. Finally, in July of 2016 we took our first group trip to Acapulco and as we watched the sun set in the infinity pool I asked him if "te quiero" means I like you or I love you. He looked into my eyes and said "with you it means I love you". (See I told you this would get romantic) The next day our friend Steve Pridgen helped him girlfriend-propose to me on the beach in an extravagant mariachi and mimosa ceremony. A couple years later on a trip to Tulum with friends he surprised me with a real proposal, and I said si!
