13 min from the wedding venue, Balboa Park is a 1,200-acre urban cultural park in San Diego, California, United States. In addition to open space areas, natural vegetation zones, green belts, gardens, and walking paths, it contains museums, several theaters, and the world-famous San Diego Zoo.
While in San Diego you have to try the Mexican food. One of our favorites is The Taco Stand. There are a few locations but this is the original. Take a stroll to see the Sea Lions and Seals (see recommendation) then treat yourself to some amazing eats. Be warned there may be a line.
This is an amazing view of the ocean and you can get within a few feet of some SoCal Sea Lions and Seals! If you plan to go see the animals, be sure to wear some runners/supportive shoes. There are some stairs to go down and some uneven ground but nothing too crazy. There is a really cool cave and amazing clear blue waters. A must-see!
This State Park costs $20 at the entrance but is gorgeous! You can hike up to get a view from the top of the ridge or you can stay below and walk along the beach. Make sure if you're using GPS- input "Torrey Pines Beach" and that will take you right to where you need to be to hike or enjoy the beach!
Even if you dont end up staying at "The Del" it is an impressive hotel with a great stretch of beach that is open to the public. This is a 5 min drive from our apartment but probably 20-25 from the wedding. Still worth the drive! There is a bar area for adults and beach access for the Kiddos- gorgeous views and island vibes.
We went to Old Town with our best friends/neighbors, Katie & Rigo. This is a great day trip for any group! Lots to do for all ages. There are old museums, street fairs, great Mexican Cuisine (kids eat free at Barra Barra Saloon-4016 Wallace Street) and it would make for a great experience!
This is a great quick and fun experience! The bridge connects two streets and was originally built as a pedestrian by-way for the local neighborhoods to the Fourth and Fifth Avenue trolley stops. It is a little scary to cross as it does wobble but it is thrilling (and free!)
A great way to see some San Diego highlights, all in one day! Sights such as the Gaslamp Quarters, Balboa Park and Hotel Del Coronado
