Question

How do I get to Martha's Vineyard?

Answer

Martha's Vineyard is only accessible by boat or plane. Taking the ferry is the most common transportation, however there are direct flights from several major airports. By Sea: There are several ferries that depart from different locations. The best option for most people is the ferry from Woods Hole, MA (~45 min long). Depending on which ferry you take, you will arrive in either Vineyard Haven or Oak Bluffs, where a taxi or ride share can transport you to your accommodations. For schedules and ticket information please visit: https://www.steamshipauthority.com/ Other ferry routes leave from New Bedford, MA (https://seastreak.com/ferry-routes-and-schedules/between-new-bedford-marthas-vineyard-ma/), and Quonset, RI (https://www.fastferry.com/marthas-vineyard-fast-ferry/) By air: There are direct flights from BOS, DCA, JFK and others via several major airlines. The airport is located in the center of the island, where a taxi or ride share can transport you to your accommodations. The airport code for Martha's Vineyard is MVY and information can be found here: https://mvyairport.com/

Question

Will I need a car on the island?

Answer

This is up to you! There are taxis and uber/lyft on island, and there is a public bus transit system. If you have a large group or are traveling with young children, it may be easier to bring a car. Alternatively, you can rent a car once you get to the island. If you are traveling with a vehicle, you will need a ferry reservation via the Steamship Authority. These go on sale in February and book very quickly, so please book as early as possible. Car ferry reservations can be made here: https://www.steamshipauthority.com/reservations/tickets

Question

What if I fly to Boston and need to get to MV?

Answer

If you're from out of state and you're flying to Boston- don't fret! There are multiple ways to get to the ferry terminal in Woods Hole. The easiest route would be to take the bus that departs from the airport several times per day. This will bring you directly to the Woods Hole ferry terminal. There are two bus companies that travel this route: Peter Pan (https://peterpanbus.com/routes/boston-to-woodshole-bus/) and P&B (https://www.p-b.com/bus-routes/woods-hole-to-logan-bus/). If you are traveling in a group it may be more cost effective to use a car service (or uber/lyft) for transportation to the ferry. Consider booking with White Tie Limo (www.whitetielimo.com), Bella Luxury Transportation (www.bellaluxma.com) or Cape Cod Car and Limo (www.capecarandlimo.com) Another option is to fly from BOS to MVY. The most common airline for this route is CapeAir, which uses small twin-engine planes that provide a memorable flying experience! We appreciate that you're making the trek all the way to MV!

Question

Where should I stay on the Island?

Answer

We do not have a traditional hotel block for the wedding, however we recommend booking accomodations in either Edgartown, Oak Bluffs, or Vineyard Haven. We encourage you to book as soon as possible. Many hotels require a two night minimum, and if you'd prefer a one night stay we suggest looking into short term rentals such as airbnb or vrbo. Reach out to Julie or Dean for hotel recommendations.

Question

Do you have a wedding registry?

Answer

We recognize that traveling to the Vineyard is logistically complicated and financially burdensome, so we have chosen not to have a wedding registry. Your presence at the wedding is a gift! We have been living together for several years and we have everything we need to start this next chapter in our lives.

Question

What is the Vose Family Boathouse?

Answer

This is a property originally purchased by Dean's great, great grandfather, Julien Vose. It has remained in the family and is available for use by all of Julien Vose's descendants. The extended family is close-knit and regularly gets together for family reunions where there is a famous family talent show. Dean's uncle Mark even wrote a song about the boathouse! The property, also called Tower Hill, is special to Dean, as it was the focus of numerous family vacations throughout his childhood. The bowling alley on the property was where Dean took Julie for their second date, and the boathouse has been a favorite spot for the two of them ever since. We look forward to creating memories with you in this special place!

Question

Are children invited to the wedding?

Answer

If you are considering bringing children to the wedding please reach out to Julie or Dean. If there is interest, we may have a babysitter on site to watch children during the ceremony and reception. Kids meals will be provided at the child care site on the property. Otherwise, we can suggest local babysitters to watch your children while you celebrate!
