Alec had his work cut out for him when it came to surprising Julie Ann— he affectionately nicknamed her “Nancy Drew” because she always manages to figure out his plans, often without even trying. To throw her off the scent, Alec and Julie Ann’s family played the long game by planning multiple nights to go to her parents’ dock to watch the sunset, followed by a nice dinner. That way, she wouldn’t think twice about yet another evening by the water. On what seemed like just another one of their “Docktails” nights, Julie Ann thought nothing of it when she and Alec were the first ones to arrive. As the sun dipped below the horizon, Alec suggested they take a picture out on the dock. After snapping a sweet selfie together, Julie Ann thought they were done, but Alec asked to take a photo of just her. Smiling at Alec, she posed for the picture, but then Alec nervously asked her to turn around. Confused but playful, she sassily replied, “You want a picture of the back of my head?” Alec, clearly flustered, stumbled through an excuse, and Julie Ann, always quick to humor him, obliged. When the photo was done, she turned back around—and there he was, down on one knee, tears in his eyes and a ring in his hand. Through his overwhelming emotions, Alec managed to say the sweetest words Julie Ann had ever heard: “Will you marry me?”
