It was a damp morning when all the canvassers gathered in Mid City on election day. Suzy Montero was running for judge and after collecting all the supplies, everyone was quickly whisked off into separate locations to knock on doors and hold up signs. Assigned to the same spot, William and Julie spoke for the first time. While the rest of the canvassers went door to door, only the two remained in the neutral ground setting up and getting to know each other. Through fits of thunderstorms that day Julie continued enthusiastically waving a sopping wet sign and William chased the tent blowing away down the road. After a long day's work, the two attended the election-night party, hoping to reconvene with each other, and after a couple of generously poured gin and tonics, they had sealed their fate. Back at home, they stayed up late that night texting. Little did she know, William had spotted Julie early that morning and had made a point to talk to her. Little did he know, she was texting so excitedly that a cheese stick she was eating in bed melted on her laptop, where a stain remains to this day.
Location: Cafe Amelie Set the Scene: Blazing New Orleans heat As Karoline (the photographer) hid in the bushes, camera in hand, William patiently waited until the check for brunch had come and gone. With the meal being over, Julie let her possible-proposal guard down and searched for a picture on her phone of her and her sister sitting by the same fountain that was right behind her at that moment. It was then that William got up from his seat and got on one knee as Karoline darted out to snap pictures. Julie, stunned, waited for him to say something, but he just kneeled there with the ring out until finally she asked, "are you going to ask me?" "Will you marry me?" William finally asked, and she said yes. Everyone clapped even though they totally didn't pay them to clap and the waitress even brought out free champagne. Although Julie sweat off the makeup on her right eyelid and William was wearing a sweat-soaked flannel shirt, a couple of photos turned out really cute.
