Long story short, Robby and I met at work. But that’s a boring story, isn’t it? What most people probably don’t know is that our younger siblings actually dated each other years and years ago (Robby’s younger sister and my younger brother)! While they were dating, I was looking for another job. Waiting tables wasn’t as much fun with how much time I was missing with my 2 year old daughter, Cambria, at home. Robby’s place of employment was looking to hire someone, so he told his sister and she of course told me. I got hired there in 2018. My family and I (and Robby’s sister) went out for dinner and I made a comment about wondering what Robby was like outside of work, because he was always the sweetest person at work. Always happy, always nice, and always smiling. Unfortunately, in April of 2020, I got laid off because of Covid. But as fate would have it, our manager called me in March of 2021 to come back. I of course said yes! Started working together again in April of 2021. I tried to set Robby up with one of my friends in March of 2022, and things kind of just snowballed from there. We had our first date in April of 2022 at Coach’s (a restaurant that’s isn’t there anymore). Me being stubborn, I kept blowing him off with every attempt he made after for another date. Even telling him I wouldn’t be able to make it to his dad’s birthday party in May. He sent his dad into my office one day to ask if I was going to be at their party that weekend. I’m terrible at telling parents no, so I said yes, and I went to the birthday party. While at the birthday party, everyone was laughing and having a good time and someone asked “are you going to the race with us Memorial Day weekend? You have to go!!” I did end up going to the race that weekend, and honestly the rest is history. Here we are GETTING MARRIED and I couldn’t be happier.
The proposal was also nothing short of amazing. I already knew what the ring was going to look like. We got the pleasure of being able to use Heather’s (Robby’s mother’s) old ring and added a little pizzazz to it. Cambria, Robby, and I took our week-long beach trip in late July of 2024. We were strolling along the sand, looking for seashells. Robby calls Cam over to him and tells her to “go grab your mom to look at this shell!” She comes to get me, and I walk over, and he’s down on one knee, holding on to the ring for dear life with one of his fingers. He asked me to marry him, and my answer was one of the easiest of my life, YES! I can’t wait to become Mrs Julie Newell!
