October Wedding

A small gathering in Grand Teton National Park

On October 2nd, 2021, Forrest and I said "I Do" under the shadow of the Grand at the Lucas-Fabian Homestead surrounded by a small group of family and friends. It was a perfect fall day, with autumn colors at their peak and 60 degree weather. We exchanged vows filled with promises, laughter, and a few tears. The ceremony included family traditions. Mine being a rosary rope brought all the way from Mexico from by my mom, to symbolize the unification of our lives. Forrest's was a 5-foot long charcuterie board made from a cedar tree that fell in his parent backyard, the Bauer-Youngs way of showing love through food. We sealed the deal with a kiss and walked down the aisle. Where we were pleasantly surprise by our guests who tossed golden aspen leaves as we walked by. A picture perfect moment! The celebration continued with a small reception at the Moran Ball Field where we had tacos for dinner, live music from the iconic local band Marmot Ate my Boots, and heard some tear-jerking speeches. The whole event was a community effort. Everyone who came had a role in the celebration from helping pitch up an event tent, hanging lights, and decorating tables, to helping cleaning up the morning after. It meant the world to us to see our friends and family come together to celebrate us. We are eternally grateful for the love that we received from people through their acts of service. It truly made the day one we will never forget. Except for the moments we can't remember... Due to Covid, we made the hard decision to make this a small event and know that there are many more people who would have loved to have joined us on our special day. That is why we are putting together what we are calling the West Coast Wedding. An opportunity to have the larger event we were hoping for and another excuse to eat cake! Hope you can join us!

How we met

Your National Park Service Cliche

We were both working for Grand Teton National Park for the winter, living in the infamous fire dorm. Forrest was volunteering for the EMS program and I was working as an education associate. We had run into each other periodically, but it wasn't until New Years Eve that things really started to click. After that, we stayed up every night until past midnight in the living room talking to each other. We shared stories and photos, and food. Mostly Forrest would cook. One of my favorite memories of him, is the time he decided to grill an elk steak for dinner... it was 10 degrees and snowing outside! I was really into him, but tried to hide it. One night we went over to our friend's Isabel's for pizza and a movie. I tried to sit as far away from him as possible, but he out smarted me and sat in the middle of the couch, giving me no choice, but to sit next to him! As the movie started, he reached over and held my hand. That's all it took! That summer I went back to Glacier National Park and Forrest stayed in Grand Teton National, the beginning of our long term long distance relationship. Over the years we would spend summers apart and winters together. Traveling to one another or meeting halfway! We've shared lots of adventures, including traveling abroad to Mexico, Thailand, Japan, and Colombia. Adventure and food are two of the things that we share the most. Forrest encouraged me to learn to ski, mountain bike, SCUBA dive, and rock climb, all very romantic things to do together! We've had many delicious meal together, from the fanciest of restaurants to the hole in the walls in the 'sketchy' parts of town. It's been a wild ride and it's only the beginning! We're excited to bring our love story full circle and get married not too far from where we first met. Next to the mountains, friends, and family who saw it all start.
