The day we arrived in Bellingham, Washington, my dreams were already coming true: I had just moved to the beautiful Pacific Northwest with the love of my life. To top things off he planned a surprise hike to the top of Mt. Baker, which has an elevation of over 10,000 feet and at the very top lives a Glacier older than 10,000 years! We both share an absolute love of hiking and mountains so I couldn't think of a better way to spend our first day in Washington. The hike was amazing, challenging and breathtaking. I wanted to stop several times to set up camp but Ian was determined to reach the top. Finally I put my foot down and told him I couldn't go any farther as I was carrying a very heavy pack. He smiled, helped me up, took my backpack, placed it on top of his own and said, "We're getting to the top today". I couldn't believe he had the strength to do what he did but we hiked the rest of the way with him carrying both of our heavy backpacks. Needless to say, I was impressed. Once we reached the top, we were greeted with the most epic view of the cascade range. Breathless, we held each other and took it all in with childlike wonder. It was then, when I least expected it, that he took my hand, walked over into a circle of evergreens and dropped to one knee. Already speechless and amazed, I was overtaken with joy that this wonderful person was asking me to marry him! Of course, I said yes.
