We met on Match. I (Julie) was on Match for a week or so and then got the heck off but had signed up for a several month package so I kept getting "Match of the Week" emails with Todd's face on it. I, of course stalked him; thought he was cute but was a chicken about messaging him and I'd have to re-engage Match. Long story short, I did. We had a glass of wine on Monroe Street as a first date at the now "One and Only" Bar and talked and laughed for hours. He gave me a sweet kiss on the Monroe Street corner under a street lamp at the end. The next morning at 8AM sharp, he texted me for a second date and the rest is history.
Well, back to the street lamp on Monroe Street.... Todd and I had planned to celebrate our two year anniversary of our first date by going to have a glass of wine at the very same spot (The One and Only). I had a very long day and an extended interview that afternoon and left work late. I told him maybe we should take a raincheck but he was insistent and promised me sushi, so I took the bait. I ran home and put on my comfy jeans and fluffy sweater and ran out the door (so much for high fashion and a beautiful outfit). We laughed at the street lamp as we walked past it to the restaurant, thinking about how nervous we both were two years earlier. After the glass of wine, we walked back past the street lamp and we kissed each other. It was a happy moment and I turned to continue walking. He called my name and as I turned to face him he was down on one knee under the street lamp with a sparkly ring in a blue box. I was slack jawed. I said something like, "Is this happening?!" or something like it and was very likely waving my hands and/or jumping around. Clearly we had caught the attention of the public as the barber and his client ran outside of his barbershop on the corner cheering and yelled, "Am I seeing what I think I'm seeing?!" {Todd was promised a free haircut}. We also stopped traffic on Monroe Street and a pick-up truck squealed to a stop, rolled down the window, and in the traditional fashion of young men driving pick-up trucks, yelled "Hell yeah!". Todd wasn't expecting an audience, but so it went. We ultimately made it back to the car and Facetimed my two daughters who were in on the surprise, to tell them. P.S. We never made it to sushi.
