5 years ago, on September 6th 2015, Christian and Julianna met at a wedding in Newburyport, MA where Julianna was bartending. The wedding was for Christian's cousin Ali and his wife Marianne. For many years, Christian unknowingly passed where Julianna was staying with her Uncle and Aunt on Plum Island, MA when he and his brothers would go fishing. At the wedding, Julianna greeted her father in law to be with excitement as she noticed he was speaking Spanish with his children. Julianna has a double Major is Spanish and Sociology from Suffolk University and spent a semester living in Costa Rica. After a brief conversation between them where Julianna shared her experience studying in Central America, Efren soon introduced his son to Julianna and told him she studied in Costa Rica and knows Spanish. Christian quickly responded with his first words to Julianna, he offered the Costa Rican saying, "Pura Vida". She smiled and he smiled back. Not wanting to be unprepaired, Julianna jotted her number down and kept it in her pocket for the right moment. Towards the end of the night, Christian had rounded up the courage to approach her and ask for her number. He saw her get her back and make her way out the door. He quickly ran downstairs to wait for her as she walked out. Unknowingly, Julianna was upstairs freshening up after work to go to a party in town. Christian was patiently waiting outside and thought the opportunity was lost. He went back upstairs and as he turned the corner into the venue hall, he bumps into Julianna nearly spilling his Jameson. She was quick to pull her prepared number out of her pocket and said "this is for you". They connected and have been together ever since!
