Not long after Umberto moved back to the Philadelphia area from Washington, D.C., Juliana and Umberto went on their first date in beautiful countryside of Berks County, PA. After that first date, Umberto uncharacteristically forgot his credit card and had to return for a second date only two days later. From that point forward their lives have been full of tranquil picnics, traveling adventures, and tennis. The big engagement moment arrived when they were visiting Juliana’s beach home in her native Brazil. The town is named Torres (“towers” in Portuguese) after two breathtaking cliffs that look out into the ocean. After hiking up to one of the cliffs and just narrowly missing a rain storm, the clouds in the sky cleared seemingly in anticipation of the proposal. Umberto got down on his knee and fortunately Juliana didn’t leave him in anticipation for too long.
